Health and Education Volunteers Inaugurates Seventh Primary School Building Project

Lak Province, Central Highlands - - On March 13, 2007, HealthEd
delivered a three-classroom building to the Buon Don District Office of
Education as a much needed addition to the Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary
School. Construction was completed in a little more than four months.
The building was designed with a high-pitch roof to blend in with local
tribal architecture. It also included a fifty-foot curved ramp for
wheelchair access (see photo). A brief ceremony was held, complete with
a traditional tribal music and dances performed by school children.
More than a hundred parents and officials from the Department of
Planning and Investment and the Office of Education of Buon Don
District participated in the celebration.
 This
is the seventh of eight primary school projects that HealthEd will
build and deliver this year. Two new buildings with five classrooms are
still under construction in Hong Tien Village, Huong Tra District in
Thua Thien (Hue) province. Earlier this year, HealthEd delivered a
total of 32 classrooms in seven primary schools located in Phu Tho,
Thanh Hoa, Tuyen Quang, Tra Vinh, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Vinh
Long Provinces. The Nippon Foundation (Japan) provides the funding for
this special project through its sister organization, the Asian
Education and Friendship Association (AEFA).
Also, in Buon Ma
Thuot City of Dak Lak Province, HealthEd and its sister organization,
Viet-Nam Assistance for the Handicapped, support a project to construct
a two-level, eight- classroom building at the Huynh Thuc Khang High
School. Funding for this project (about $55,000) comes from individuals
in the Vietnamese American community in the United States including
VNAH Board Members and members of the Vietnamese Professional
Association (VPA).
