Promoting Civil Society

Under a grant signed in October, 2003, with the U.S. Agency for International Development, Viet Nam Assistance for the Handicapped will continue its work with public and private organizations in Vietnam to help develop a strong and vibrant non-governmental sector.

The priority under the new grant will be to work with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee on Social Affairs to help draft and enact a law allowing and encouraging the operation of Vietnamese Non-Governmental Organizations – NGOs.  Such NGOs are deemed to be vital to address a wide range of humanitarian, social and economic needs across the world today – in nationals of the Global north and south.

Partnering with VNAH in this important effort will be the International Center for Non-Profit Law (ICNL). ICNL is considered the leading expert in non-profit law.
