USAID Supports Vietnam's First Employer Conference to Promote Hiring People with Disabilities

The National Coordinating Council on Disability (NCCD) held Vietnam's first employer conference on March 28 in Hanoi with the strong support of Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped. Among the 130 participants were several prominent guest speakers, including the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, the Vice Minister of MOLISA and representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor and the International Labor Organization.

The purpose of the conference, supported by our current USAID grant, was to garner support for the establishment of a panel of employers to create and expand career opportunities for people with disabilities by engaging the talent and leadership of national and international employers as partners and stakeholders. The plan to establish the panel was widely supported by members of the American Chambers of Commerce in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hanoi.

The conference also provided information to participants about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
